It's been industrialized, urbanized and polluted, yet it remains an incredibly important corridor for migrating and nesting birds. It is North America's first international wildlife refuge and home to one of the largest freshwater marsh restorations in the world. Join photographer David Stimac in an exploration of the diversity and beauty of this often overlooked region. Badour Rd.Midland, MI 48640 Southwestern Michigan WildflowersApril 27-29, 2012 Limit 8 participants Dowagiac Woods is smothered in huge colonies of Trilliums, Spring Beauties and Dutchman's Breeches. Hundreds of Blue Eyed Mary's bloom along the sunny edges of the forest and clumps of Marsh Marigolds grow in the wet areas. The first waves of migrant warblers and vireos flit throughout the tree tops. During this workshop we'll concentrate on making well composed portraits of flowers and intimate landscapes of the forest. Other subject matter may include insects and amphibians. Northern Lake Huron WildflowersJune 1-3, 2012 Limit 8 participants Late spring on the shores of Lake Huron is an incredible wildflower show. Mats of Fringed Polygala and Dwarf Lake Iris grow along the edges of White Cedar forests. Clumps of Small Yellow Lady's Slippers bloom among Junipers and the rare Ram's Head Lady's Slipper can be found in the cool shade of Balsam. Colonies of Bird's Eye Primrose and Indian Paintbrush dot the wet alkaline soil and hundreds of Columbine sprout from the limestone. During this workshop we'll concentrate on making well composed portraits of flowers and intimate landscapes of the forest and shoreline. Winter Waterfowl at Bosque Del ApacheNational Wildlife Refuge, New Mexico January 6-11, 2013 Limit 6 participants A waterfowl bonanza in the New Mexico desert! We'll photograph Snow & Ross's Geese, Sandhill Cranes and several duck species. The often spectacular sunrises and sunsets in this region combined with thousands of waterbirds makes this location a fantastic photography destination. Dave's previous experience at Bosque, his knowledge of where to be during the best light, as well as his understanding of the birds' behavior in various weather conditions will help put you in the best locations Bosque has to offer. Harlequins on the RocksBarnegat Light, New Jersey February 17-22, 2013 Limit 6 participants Wintering waterfowl at this location include very approachable Harlequin and Long-tailed Ducks, and Brant. Surf and Black Scoters, Common Eiders and shorebirds such as Purple Sandpiper, Ruddy Turnstone and Black-bellied Plovers are also prime photo subjects. Dave's knowledge of the area and the tide's influence on bird behavior will give you amazing photographic situations in this waterfowl-rich area. |
